Lawn Mowers

Find out more about Lawn Mowers

If you are looking to buy a lawn mower, there is an enormous variety of manufacturers and designs to choose from.

Your choice should be decided by what size your lawn is, if you need a mower for professional use and whether you want petrol, electric, or a self propelled motor. There are machines which are walk behind mowers, riding mowers, trail mowers plus a whole range of other garden equipment such as trimmers and lawn vacuums.

There are advantages and disadvantages for the different types of lawn mowers available.

Electric & Walk-behind Lawn Mowers

Electric lawn mowers have the huge inconvenience of a trailing cable. If you do buy an electric mower, it is imperative you also buy a circuit breaker in case you accidentally run over the wire.

Electric mowers are also not as powerful as other motors but if you have a small garden and do not need a fancy design, a mower such as the Black and Decker Electric Mower MM675 will be suitable.

Other walk behind mowers which are more elaborate, such as the 42 Inch Heavy Duty Wide Area Walk Behind Mower by Swisher, this type of machine is needed if you have a lawn sized half an acre and upwards, this machine is also usable over rough terrain.

Honda Lawn Mowers

Many higher priced mowers use a self propelled engine such as the Honda HRX217HXA priced around $700. The benefit to self propelled lawn mowers is that they are more powerful than the electric or push mowers, for example the machine mentioned above uses a hydro static engine. The Honda design also bags, mulches and has a side discharge with the added benefit of a lade break which allows you to empty out without switching off the engine. However, self propelled lawn mowers do have a tendency to breaking down more frequently.

If you own a large garden or you use lawn mowers professionally, trail mowers or riding lawn mowers will be more suited to your needs. Swisher have produced a trail mower which attaches on the back of lawn trucks and is a dramatically quicker way to maintain large meadows or gardens.

Machines like the Zero Radius Turning Mowers are designed to quickly cut whilst being easy to maneuver with the ability to turn 360 degrees perfect for maneuvering around flower beds and pts etc. There is a range of models but the price range between $2800 and $4000. The main difference between these machines is the design of the engine. The steeper end of the price range uses a Honda GVX Twin Cylinder. Briggs and Stratton Intek Engine Honda GVX is used in the lower end of the price range.

The Dixie Chopper looks like one of the most impressive cutters and is arguably one of the most popular commercial lawn mowers on the market known for its speed and lasting durability.
