Guide to Colon Cleansing

Colon Cleansing

Find out more about Colon Cleansing

The colon, large intestine, or bowel, is an organ situated in the abdomen, and is vitally important for its function of completing the body's digestive process by absorbing water-soluble nutrients and carrying out the synthesis of certain vitamins.

Keeping the colon clean is beneficial for numerous different health issues, including weight related issues such as food cravings and bloating. Abdominal gas, constipation, depression, diarrhea, irritability, mood swings, allergies, asthma, skin problems, bad breath, foul body odor, lethargy, tiredness, insomnia, backaches, headaches, hemorrhoids, arthritis, hypoglycemia, prostate trouble, sciatic pain, hypertension, and menstrual problems, are all problems than can benefit from having a clean colon.

One method of colon cleansing is to undergo colon hydrotherapy treatment, a method also known as colonic irrigation. This is where purified warm water is pumped through the colon so as to remove unwanted faecal matter, gas, toxic substances, and mucus. In order to undergo the procedure, you will first have to visit a colonic therapist who will carry out the treatment. This lasts approximately thirty to forty-five minutes. Warm water is gently released into the colon through the rectum, whilst at the same time the colonic therapist will carry out special massage techniques designed to stimulate the release of the stored matter.

As well as having positive side effects relating to the health issues listed above, the treatment can also be helpful in retonifying and reshaping the colon. One advantage of opting or colonic irrigation over the use of laxatives (another method of cleaning out the colon) is that it is not habit forming. It is a completely safe technique that doesn't have any negative side effects. What puts the majority of people off choosing to take a course of colonic irrigation is the feeling of embarrassment connected to what is involved in the process. However, this should not be considered a problem because you will be guaranteed absolute professionalism with your colonic therapist, and must not forget that, for them, this is a routine process.

If there are any negative side effects at all, these do not extend beyond unsettled bowel movement for the few days following the treatment (due to the time it takes for the bowel to refill to its normal level). Another point to observe with treatment is that everything is disposable and will be used for only one treatment, as well as this, the machine used for pumping the water through the colon will be disinfected after each treatment.

If you do not wish to take a course of colonic irrigation, there are other treatments available in today's market. The primary methods are:
